Mary Jane married Philip James Luntley in London in 1830, and the family went down the social scale from then on! Philip was an atrocious businessman and was made bankrupt in 1828. I think his marriage was intended to put him on his feet again as the Luntleys were also well off, but Philip messed it up for this branch of the family!

After his death in 1853, Mary Jane returned to her roots in Scarborough with their numerous family, though only two sons. The elder remained in Scarborough and also had a prodigious family with many sons, and they migrated all over the North East, to Newcastle and to Middlesbrough.

The 1861 census shows Mary Jane (aerated water manufacturer) living at 1 Granby Place, Scarborough. In 1861 she was a lodging house keeper at 16 Valley Bridge Parade, Scarborough and had one servant. By 1881 she had retired and was living on “Income from houses” and the lodging house, now at 32 Esplanade, was being run by Annie Luntley.
